Medical Gas Training Course - ASSE 6020

Course: ASSE 6020 - Medical Gas Systems Inspectors

The Medical Gas Inspector is required to have a general knowledge of the applicable laws, codes, rules, listing agencies and regulations from the federal, state and local levels pertaining to medical gas and vacuum systems as well as knowledge of product performance, system and system component testing, documentation and recording.

Our 24 hour class is presented with interaction from the students and instructor.  Categories 1, 2, and 3 installation requirements will be covered.  Each medical gas and vacuum system is discussed followed by students completing a drawing of the system in detail.  The reason for this is that the detailed drawings in the NFPA 99C code book does not match with the written requirements.  Architect/Engineer (A/E) drawings are used to show the student typical piping details and what is not included on these drawings but required by NFPA 99.

Each candidate student shall complete and certify that he/she has a minimum of 2 years of documented experience and shall be employed by a governmental unit as a plumbing and/or mechanical inspector; or as an administrator of such inspections; or be a person regularly involved in the design, inspection, or verification of medical gas systems.

A written 100 question, closed book multiple choice examination covering all facets of ASSE Standard 6020, NFPA 99 and NFPA 55.  Candidates must correctly answer 80% of the questions correctly to achieve a passing grade.  Upon successful completion of this examination, a certificate and a wallet size ID card will be issued by NITC.

The maintenance of the Medical Gas Inspector certification is handled directly by NITC and shall be renewed every 3 years.  You will be required to pass a multiple choice open book examination for this renewal.
