NEW for 2008
California has changed the NFPA 99 code date to 2005 for all new projects sent in for review and approval starting January 1, 2008. AW Johnson & Associates has Medical Gas training classes set up which meets and exceeds the requirements of ASSE 6010. What this means to you is that when you bid on the job for medical gas system installation, new personnel (installers/brazers) will need a 32 hour training and qualification course. From my talks with California OSHPD, the installers/brazers will be "grandfathered" if the logs or maintenance of their qualification is up-to-date. They will not have to go through the 32 hour course as of this writing.
We have the 32 hour course ready and we have been approved as a training and qualification facility by OSHPD. This course meets and exceeds the ASSE 6010 Standard referenced in the NFPA 99 code. Our facility is located in Fallbrook, CA. This is in the north San Diego county.
Please call us at 760 451-8794 for upcoming training dates. We have set aside one 32 hour training week per month.

BACKGROUND
NFPA 99-1993, 1996 and 1999 requires your company or hospital to have qualified Brazing Procedures and Personnel (Brazers). To meet these requirements, we have written a comprehensive training course and provide accredited testing facilities to test the coupons.
We have trained and qualified over 1000 installers across the US in the past 17 years. This included over 400 companies and hospitals now accredited to install and modify medical gas piping systems. The instructor, AW Johnson is the current chairman of ANSI/AWS B2.2, Standard for Brazing Procedure and Performance Qualification.
The ABC and PHCC organizations are currently providing the journeymen plumbers with our med gas installation training and qualification in some areas. If you are a member of one of these organizations in your area, special pricing is provided to your company and personnel.
TRAINING
We provide 6 hours of classroom training on NFPA 99C. Handouts and a copy of your applicable code year of NFPA 99C. Tips, suggestions and compliance for installation are in the manual along with guidance on what the inspectors' are looking for. This is followed by actual brazing of 2 coupons by the students and testing by a specially designed portable tensile machine.
DOCUMENTATION
The brazer is furnished with a record of the brazing performance test when both coupons have passed, and a log to maintain his or her qualification. The company or hospital is furnished with a Brazing Procedure Qualification Record and a Brazing Procedure Specification assigned to only that company or hospital.
We will provide on-site service or at our facility in Fallbrook, CA, weekdays, evenings, or Saturday. For the next training and qualification dates in your area, call 760-451-8794, or e-mail us..
ALSO
AW Johnson & Associates can provide training and testing of your personnel with a self paced manual and instructions to complete the qualification at your place of business. Once the student has completed the training manual, he/she will complete a written test followed by brazing two test coupons in the horizontal position and two in the vertical position. Next, send them to us for grading and testing. Sounds easy, it is.
