Medical Gas Training Course - Soldering / ASME B31.9

Course: Soldering of Water Systems and ASME B31.9, Building Services Piping

Again the A/E has required the procedures and personnel where the water system installed in a Level I facility (e.g. a hospital) to be qualified.  The new code, B2.3 from the American Welding Society (AWS) was used to qualify the procedures and for the solder’s qualification.  Each company will need to purchase these documents, the Soldering Procedure Qualification Record (SPQR) and the Soldering Procedure Specification (SPS).

There is no formal training required so the solderer only needs to pass one vertical and one horizontal coupon. This test is given on 1-1/2” L copper tubing using Harris 95-5 filler metal.  We provide onsite an accredited testing facility to destructively and visually inspect the soldered coupons of our students.

The brazer will receive a Soldering Performance Test Record (SPTR) and a Log to maintain his/her qualification. If they will solder once each 6 months, he/she will not lose their qualification.

See the side bar for the materials need by each student.
